Our story begins with two founders, Ken and Christian, who lived through the exact challenges every winter driver fears.
Winter Challenge
OUR JOURNEY
The opening weekend of the Utah general deer hunting season was a dangerous mix of mud and snow. Cold temperatures high up in Utah’s Uinta mountains brought rain and snow flurries to the rough mountain roads. With no traction, but deer to hunt, Kranken founder, Christian chained up his truck and hit the road. The rubber tensioners were no help; with every turn of the tires, metal chains slapped the body of the truck leaving dents and scratches.
With no choice but to improvise or risk sliding off the mountain, he used paracord to fashion his own makeshift tensioner. The result? No more damage to the truck and more importantly, improved traction to keep crawling the mountains looking for deer.
But our story doesn’t end there! Just a month later, Ken, was climbing a steep and snowy mountain trail in Idaho when a rubber tensioner burst apart and the chains came loose, tearing through his brake lines causing a catastrophic failure that left his vehicle stranded for days until help could be coordinated.
That was the final straw. Drivers deserve better and they sought out to build a stronger, safer, and more reliable solution; Hence, the birth of Kranken.
